Ausglass: and its 'Futures Past'

For more than two years, Grace Cochrane AM, delved into the history and cultural environment of Ausglass since it began as ‘PIGS’ in the early eighties. The people, places, events and activities of the fledgling organisation and its growth through the following 40 years are described in Grace’s essay with insight and a deep appreciation of the arts scene in Australia over that period. Ausglass is indebted to Grace for her devotion and perseverance in producing a work that serves as a unique chronicle of our organisation’s history. Read on

Vicki Torr: A Cutting Edge - Exhibition

Mounted out of our commitment to special events in the International Year of Glass, this exhibition celebrates and acknowledges the art and influence of Vicki Torr; the name carried forward in our biennial Memorial Prize and annual Emerging Artist Prize.

The exhibition is now showing at the Wagga Wagga Art Gallery, home of the National Art Glass Collection, and runs until the end of January 2023. It’s great summer viewing: pay it a visit!

The exhibition brochure provides information and a glimpse of what you’ll find.

'Futures Past' is on!!

Yes, we’re all hanging out for a get-together like the good ‘ol days and now it’s happening! Make your plans - travel, accommodation, dinner with friends, etc.. It’s 3-5 February 2023, on the campus of the Australian Catholic University in Melbourne (Fitzroy). There’ll be the tried-and-true line-up that we all look forward to - inspiring speakers, wowing demonstrations, satellite events and social activities. And, yes, workshops front and back of the conference weekend. Details on everything will be available shortly and registrations will open within weeks. See you soon!!

'Futures Past' postponed.

We’ve been hanging out on the hope that COVID-19 uncertainties would clear in time to finalise arrangements for our conference in February 2022. Of course that hasn’t happened and the projections aren’t encouraging. So, the still-to-be-fantastic event is postponed to 3-5 February 2023; a time when we hope we can all take part in the activities that make an Ausglass conference so enjoyable for everyone. In the meantime we’ve got the International Year of Glass 2022 to look forward to, and there’ll be plenty there to entertain us. Watch out for events!

IYOG2022 is a reality

Congratulations to all those across the globe who have laboured and succeeded in the long-held vision of the International Commission on Glass(ICG) for the United Nations General Assembly to declare the International Year of Glass 2022! (IYoG2022). This is a monumental achievement! Work is now underway to orchestrate an international program of activities and events that will underline the technological, scientific, economic, environmental, historical and artistic roles of glass in the modern age; emphasizing the possibilities this medium offers for many of the world’s current challenges. Australia has been in the thick of planning through people such as Dr Bronwyn Hughes, OAM [GLAAS Inc. [Aust.]) who chairs the ICG regional steering committee and an artistic glass working group that looks at planning for the Oceania region (includes Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand and Philippines). Ausglass is pleased to be a part of this working group and will contribute to the 2022 program of glass-related activities that celebrate IYoG2022. See more details here.
