Principal venue
The 2009 Conference Glass Roots will be held in Hobart, Tasmania.

The principal venue for events will be the University of Tasmania's  School of Art on Hunter Street, just opposite Fisherman's Dock in Sullivan's Cove.  The University is one of our principal sponsors. See Google Maps for the School of Art location in Sullivan's Cove, Hobart.

We will be using the School's Dechaineux Theatre (seats 200), teaching rooms, and a variety of spaces in the School of Art for artist talks, demonstrations and the trade show. Exhibitions and some other events will be held nearby within easy walking distance. Friday and Sunday lunches will be provided in the School.

Restaurants, bars & coffee shops
Choose from a diverse range of restaurants and bars in easy distance including: the Henry Jones IXL Hotel (literally 20m from the venue entrance), The Drunken Admiral Restaurant (another 20m), the Hotel Grand Chancellor (40m further if you can manage that), the Old Woolstore just beyond, The Red Lion Hotel, Alexandra's Hotel (claims to be the oldest in Australia), Mures UpperDeck Restaurant striking out across the docks but no further than the Grand Chancellor, and many eateries and bars in and around Salamanca Place (7 mins walk away). And of course there is the City Centre about 5 mins walk away, and North Hobart 5 minutes by car.

Accommodation
When choosing a place to stay, we recommend choosing somewhere in the precinct, so you don't need taxis or parking to get to the venue and back. However, a cheap and good alternative is Jane Franklin Hall (university student accommodation during semesters), a 30 minute walk from the venue, or via a regular bus service. Please refer to the Accommodation page of this website for further information.
